What is the name of this military thing?

When a soldier twirls a gun (unloaded I believe) in certain orders and direction. My brother says it's called "army comping". My father says it's called "gun twirling". My mother and myself remember it from the movie, Cadet Kelly. It's very likely that it's gun twirling, but we vaguely remember it being called something else. Please help!
