My iPod got stepped on.. should I get it fixed quick like he says?

K so I always take my iPod to bball practice so that if we run the mile or something I'll have it with me for some motivation, right? right. So I had it in my bag a few weeks ago, and somebody accidentally stepped on it, n I didn't find out till after practice that it had been stepped on. The screen had a big black line from the right hand corner to the middle, and a weird yellowish-blueish line running from the left of the screen to the middle. So one day, I was listening to it, and this kid's like, "WOAH what happened to your iPod?" n I was all, "It got stepped on" and he was like "oh lemme see it" so he takes it and he said it will spread, and eventually the whole thing will just stop working, so I should get it fixed as soon as possible, and it'll cost $100+ dollars. Recently, though, the black line has been fading, and it's now nearly gone, and the line seems to change a lot how like wide it is n stuff. Do I need to get it fixed, or will it still work if I just leave it?
