Surround Sound System Suggestion Help!?

I am asking my parents for a surround sound system in my room for my Playstation 3 for Christmas, and I do not know where to start in helping them find one. I want a decent one that will last a long time and not go like obsolete as soon as I get it...maybe 300$ dollars or something? Im not too sure...well anyways can I have some reliable information and suggestions please???
