Is this legal for a staff member at a bar/club to do?

Some friends, my boyfriend, and I were at a club/bar this weekend and my boyfriend got jumped. I didn't call the police to file a report b/c we were intoxicated. Okay, well, one of the staff members (bouncers) told my b/f to "get the f**k out of the bar," and preceeded to hit my b/f in the back of the head all the way out of the bar. Once outside two men and the staff member jumped on my b/f. The staff member kept other people back from trying to help my b/f besides me. I hit the main guy on my b/f in the face, but likely to say I didnt have much impact. The staff member pushed me down once and helped to hold my b/f down while the others guys got what they wanted in. Is this legal? Should I speak with the owner or the manager about this? I want this guy fired, is that unreasonable? They are hired to break up fights, not intice one. Should I speak with an attorney about this, even though there wasnt a police report filed, does that matter?
