How does WH intend to extend British influence in EU and the World with a xenophobic immigration policy.?

This is in view of the Coalition's hostile Immigration policy towards non-EU immigrants and their apathy towards everything EU which has been responsible for lack of constructive British influence and input in the EU up to now. The rest of the world would retaliate in kind to the bigotry, chauvinism and xenophobia of the Tories in due time. How would that help WH objective of this rhetoric of political convenience.
